Christian Education at St. John’s is both a Sunday and a week day activity. Most of the groups are small but the discussions are lively. Throughout the regular school year, children and adults meet at 9:30am, between the two services, for our Christian Education Program.

St. John's Christian Education

Children’s Program:The children’s Sunday school program is organized and overseen by the Director of Christian Education who prepares our parish volunteers to teach. The children’s music coordinator and the Sunday school chairman work with the Director to provide age-appropriate music, lessons and activities. All the children meet together in the parlor of the Parish Center for the first 15 minutes to celebrate God’s love through music and then break into their classes in the Parish Center and the Nursery Building. Sunday school is offered to Pre-K, Primary, Intermediate, and Young Teens. Sunday school topics include learning about special events celebrated throughout the Christian year, reading and interpreting stories of the Bible, participating in holiday performances and events, and sharing in hands-on activities and role-playing. The lessons are generally drawn from the series, Living the Good News, an Episcopal lectionary-based program.

The Little Lambs ministry started this year at St. John’s in order to include the youngest children of our parish in the Christian education program. This group meets once a month to hear a Bible story illustrated with props from the Godly Play series, perform a related art activity and have a snack. The Little Lambs ministry provides a wonderful opportunity for our youngest parishioners and their parents to share in fellowship and fun.

The Sunday school teaching, Little Lambs program and Youth Ministry are shared by an active group of St. John’s members and parish volunteers.

Nursery: A Nursery program is available during every 11:00am worship service and is staffed by volunteers.

Adult Program: The Adult Forum meets each Sunday to explore a variety of topics under the leadership of one of the priests, a parish member or the occasional guest speaker. Each lesson or presentation stands alone. Classes this past year have included a variety of topics including personal prayer, the miracles of Jesus, the nourishment and discipline of our spirituality, environmental stewardship as seen in the Bible, an inside look at Africa, the work of therapy dogs, our own outreach programs, and the scripture lessons for the day. The Senior Warden serves as coordinator for this program.
